FOR FEB 2
I'm handing out a packet with poems in it by
Robert Hass, Stephen Dobyns (compare "Privilege
of Being" with "The Noise the Hairless Make" by Dobyns),
Gertrude Stein, C. K. Williams), and I want you to
read them. The poem "Normalcy," by Williams,
speaks to Goetsch's poem in BAP 2009.
For Feb 2 read the article in TALP with Hayden Carruth,
and read through page 56 in BAP 2004 and BAP 2009.
Compare and contrast the poems in both by Collins and
Bibbins--why do they appear in both editions?
Read Michael Burkard and Jane Miller in AH.
The arrangement of the Garren book is due, with explanation,
and we'll talk about what qaulities each arrangment features.
Make 9 copies of your reasoning and your table of contents.
I'm not expecting literary theory from everyone--some have had
a lot of experience some not so much--just do me the honor
of a good effort. Use your intuition.
I'll ask if I should pass out copies of Arrow Pointing North. Not
sure if it's instructive or not.
Otherwise we look at more manuscripts, and start to define the
aesthetic WE'RE going for. I haven't SEEN the ms that blows me
away yet, but then I haven't looked at many of them . . .
