THE OTHER LIFE
Remember, Herb Scott's poems are up for discussion too:
just check them out. Pages 81 - 132. It takes like 40
minutes to read all that (they're that entertaining). Here's
one that's a bit frightful (and gross):
HAMS
A woman brings a ham back.
She found maggots
eating Easter dinner.
A display of twenty hams
against the wall,
fat dripping down.
Each one unwrapped finds
maggots burrowed in.
We pour Clorox on the tiles,
behind the baseboard.
Armies of maggots boil out.
Butcher wipes the hams
in vinegar, wraps them up
marked down by ten percent.
We sell them all.
