STUFF

Ok, so, about the submission to a magazine--yes, send me
some evidence (or bring a hard copy of same to class) you
sent poems to a magazine (and it must be represented on
New Pages) . . . Carly already did so, and sent here (The
Blue Earth Review). Do this by April 23, 2014 (you've got
two weeks). Next week I'll talk about some of this--letters
and such.

In the meantime, please, venture forth onto Lulu's website,
because, seriously, not until you see what you're dealing
with will you understand exactly what needs to happen. It's
not really difficult, but like anything, you just need to do it
to understand it. A few of the formatting limitations will
present themselves, and you can react accordingly. But the
idea is you deal with it and then everyone can discuss it
in class next week (and the week after, and so on) . . .

I'll bring a few examples of poems to class that feature long
lines and so have to be "wrapped." Better yet, go to pages 56,
57, and 59 in My Life in Heaven. The fifth line in "A Covered
Bridge" is really suppose to be one long line, but since the page
isn't large enough to print it that way, the end of the line if
dropped down, then indented. This indicates the intention
for the line to be continuous. "A Covered Bridge" is therefore,
actually, eight lines long . . . You see? More on that later . . .

I know we haven't had time for the reading, but please bring
all the texts to class the rest of the time. That is Burkard,
Foust, and Wenderoth (I hope you bought them all right away).
There will be a couple really small assignments based on these.

We will write in class again.

But mostly everything you have left to do you know about--
the anthology and the book, the submission. Tonight I wanted
to get through the poems, but the anthology is easy, and I'll
give you examples of some done in the past next week . . .

So, remember about the cover art. Bring some ideas / examples
next week, and read read read Carly's and, yes, Ashley's manu-
scripts.
