STUFF

So, be an expert on your Ruefle poem. Oh, and if
you were not in class, your poem is

Jennifer: "Q & A"
Thomas: "Picking Up Pinecones"

Then we move on to Kasischke.

Also, read "Rape Joke" on page 533 of the Pushcart Prize
volume. Opinion? And "Too Many Pigeons To Count
and One Dove," by Mary Szybist, page 357. Also, Bob
Hicok's "Why We Must Support PBS," on pp 45-46,
and Michael Dickman's "John Clare" on 510-513

If you are game: three stories: one by Rick Bass, "How
She Remembers It," pp. 341-356; and one by
Wells Tower, "The Dance Contest," 392-439. And
one by David Means (who was born and raised in Kalamazoo)
on pp. 116-128. Not required, but I expect them to be worthwhile.
And why not get a little prose into the act? I'm very familiar
with these three fiction writers--and aware they all happen
to be male. They are all very very good though. Tower
draws parallels to George Saunders . . .

There is also a great little essay by Edward Hoagland (about the
Beats etc).

Next week, we will talk about Jessica's and Jennifer's and
Thomas's and Austin's and Chris's and Courtney's mss.

I imagine we may only get through four of these
and need to do the last two on the following Wednesday.
It goes like that sometimes. Remember, the next BATCH
of poems is not due until Feb. 18.

Still, on Feb 11, along with a couple final workshop
critiques, we'll do some other things--manuscripts;
listen to some stuff about the "business" side of running
a press . . . etc.

And thanks for the books Jessica (the Ashbery one is
worth 35 bucks on Amazon (I don't want to sell it though))!
