I'll get a bit more specific on Tuesday about assignments--
say, the anthology. What you are assembling is a table of
contents (with page numbers). This means you will have to
make judgements about poem lengths, how many lines per
page, which is one part of publishing, of course. How will
the design determine the length (page-wise) of the book.
More on this . . .
READ the essays. Hoagland's the most annoyed by the
fashion, the anti-narrative, though he admits there
are ways to do it. It's very worthwhile pointing out.
There's that, and there's other spontaneous stuff, plus
looking at some manuscripts. Please bring in 13 copies
of your poem (we have an additional student joining us).
NOTE: to page 34 in Downsides. Forgot that bit. How is
that book proceeding, poem to poem . . .
Stay tuned. I'm waiting for the "winter storm" to hit.
Reading a bit of Donald Barthelme. I'm trying to figure out
how to convert a photograph to 300dpi (from 180dpi) for
the cover of a forthcoming book that's in production. I'm
not a technical person, so it's frustrating (I resist!). I have
to rebel against almost everything! What a pain.
